There Are No More Heroes

by Madelleine Müller

September
The leaves were turning red and gold and do you

Remember
How we would listen to the stars

They told us we’d live forever
But that was a lie

There are no more heroes
But we’ll do just fine

Upstairs in
The attic, I found our old cartoons and masks

Remember
How we’d be lost in play

We dreamt of saving the Earth
But the moon was too high

There are no more heroes
But we’ll do just fine

There are no more heroes
But we’ll do just fine

Soon the clouds will let go and fade away
Soon we’ll meet again some sunny day
Soon we will sit under blue skies and we won’t need them
Anymore

September
The wind it blew away our footprints in the sand

Remember
We tried to carve them out in stone

We thought our heroes were strong
But soon they would fall

There are no more heroes
But we’ll do just fine

There are no more heroes
But we’ll do just fine

Soon the clouds will let go and fade away
Soon we’ll meet again some sunny day
Soon we will sit under blue skies and we won’t need them
Anymore

There are no more heroes
But we’ll do just fine

There are no more heroes
But we’ll do just fine
